QB093 Ultrasonic Sensor

The ultrasonic sensor is a multi-functional tool to measure distance and is commonly used in vehicle obstacle avoidance systems and related projects. It works as follows: an ultrasonic transmitter emits ultrasonic waves in a specific direction while a timer starts ticking. These waves travel through the air and bounce back when they meet an obstacle. The ultrasonic receiver detects these reflected waves and prompts the timer to stop. By calculating the time recorded by the timer, we can determine the distance from the sensor to the obstacle using the formula: distance (s) = speed of sound (340 m/s) * time (t)/2. This sensor can have applications in obstacle avoidance vehicles, handheld rangefinders, water level monitors, and even ultrasonic counters.
